Surprise!
February 6, 2006Last night, as I was assisting passengers with their carry-on baggage, a familiar face appeared in front of me along with an airport escort and three attractive young women. I offered to carry two large white shopping bags over to a chair where he sat to slip on his soft leather shoes.
I bent down and said, "May I ask you a question?"
One
of his traveling companions interrupted with, "He's not who you think
he is."
Ignoring her, I continued, after he responded with an interested "Yes."
In a subtle whisper, I asked, "Do you know who Bobby Darin is?"
A huge smile covered his face! "Yes, Bobby Darin was the world's greatest crooner who ever lived."
Next
(be still, my Valentine's Day heart), he began to serenade me with a few bars
of Mack The Knife. I mustered up just enough presence of mind to briefly
inform him about the private affair in New York City in May 2006. Sounding
a bit disappointed he informed me that he would be in China at that time.
We briefly spoke about Golden Retrievers and that an acquaintance of mine
sold his family a Golden back around '94. When he stood, he took my shoulders
in his hands and gave me a kiss on each cheek (European style!) and I thanked
him and returned to my duties. The officer stationed at the EXIT saw the whole
thing and mentioned that after I left the area, three ladies approached him
for an autograph.
Thirty minutes later, his airport escort returned from her duties and told
me that he was on his way to Los Angeles and his private plane was in for
repairs. This was, in fact, the first time he has ever had to travel through
the public area of the airport. The young women accompanying him were members
of his personal staff.
"Bobby Darin was the world's greatest crooner who ever lived."
It doesn't get any better than that!

Continuing
to Drop the Delicious Darin name . . .
Without compromising passenger safety!
Oh, who was it, you ask?
Who said that Bobby Darin was the world's greatest crooner?

It was Julio Iglesias!
