  Walden Robert Cassotto was born
To become
The one and only, legendary
Bobby Darin;
His music and his life
Have captivated me.

There are times when
I feel very close to him,
When my heart aches
For him;
And I know he's not
Within reach.

There are times when
I hear his voice,
And I cry.
And there are times when
I hear his voice,
And I smile.
As much heartache
As he can bring me,
He brings that much
Joy to me.

Watching him perform
Brings such pleasure to me.
Seeing his brighter-than-the-stars smile,
Shows me how much pleasure
performing brings to him;
Seeing him move
With such exuberance and energy,
Dominating the stage and
Seducing me.

The way he wanted to give
Everything he had,
All of his strength,
To make me love and adore him,
Shows how deeply he cared.

I am so grateful
To Bobby,
For all that he accomplished
While on this earth.

There never will be
Another performer
Who has touched me
So deeply,
Who has built a home
Within my heart,
And will always be
A part of me.

If only
I could have been in the audience
As bobby sang Splish Splash,
Wearing my poodle skirt and saddle shoes
Longing for a resembling glance
From this young charmer
Who would soon capture my heart.

If only
I could have had the chance
To see his arrival to the metropolis,
Which he will soon take over,
And be swept away by his exhilarating
And unequaled performance
Being able to experience the brilliance firsthand.

If only
I could have seen the transformation
To the mature and experienced Bobby,
full of ideas and ready for change
Leaving the world bewildered
And far behind.

If only
I was at his last concert
Being hypnotized by the magic
Of his dynamic and voltaic exhibition
While knowing he was dying
And breathless on stage
Moving closer to official silence.

If only
I was with him in the hospital
In those final days
Holding his hand, stroking his hair
Softly kissing his cheek,
Whispering comforting thoughts
As he takes his last breath.

If only's
Could go on forever
Much like the ongoing unveilment by the world
Of the true genius that was
Bobby Darin.

Bobby, standing there
In a crowded airport
Trying to hide his glowing light
behind glasses and a dark hat.

But I know it's him.
The charm and magic of him
Exude from all sides;
It's undeniably Bobby.

I reach out to him,
"Bobby," I say, with hope in my eyes.
I pray he won't turn away
And leave me shattered.

That second of waiting for him to answer
Seemed like an eternity.
"Please take my hand,"
I'm thinking, my hand still outstretched to him.

Suddenly, his hand grasps mine
"Yes," he says.
My world overflows with joy!
He continues, "What's your name?"
I can hardly speak.
Taking a deep breath
I answer him and I see
that dazzling, sparkling smile.

"How about a picture?"
He leans in close to me while calling a friend over
who obliges.
He pulls away, smiles once more,
and turns to leave.

While I watch him, my eyes are fixated on his walk,
and I want to run after him.
"Don't go!" I'm yelling in my head
as I feel the joy that just inhabited my world a minute ago
drain away and leave me despondent.

For one brief, shining moment I was touching heaven
by touching Bobby
.
